ASCO and its affiliates (“ASCO,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) are committed to respecting your privacy. We take privacy, security, and complying with data protection and privacy laws seriously. In addition to this Privacy Policy, users of our websites and mobile applications should consult the Website Terms of Use as well as any product specific terms and conditions that may apply. Donors to Conquer Cancer should also consult the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology Supplemental Donor Privacy Policy Terms, below, for supplemental terms. Our Privacy Policy is updated from time to time.
This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect about you, how we collect it, who we share it with, how we protect your information, and your rights and choices regarding your information. This Privacy Policy applies to the information collected through your interactions and communications with ASCO and use of its services, including through our websites, through the phone, through our Apps, platforms, and information that ASCO receives from third parties (collectively, “Service(s)”), except where a separate privacy policy may be displayed, in which case such separate privacy policy will apply.
Please be aware that this Policy does not govern the practices of third parties, such as our partners, third-party service providers, or advertisers. Any information that you provide to third parties, even if you provide them through our services, will be governed by the third party’s privacy policies and terms of use – not this policy. Therefore, please review such third-party policies and terms.
By visiting any ASCO website and sharing any information with us, you agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy and Terms of Service and consent to our use and disclosure practices, and other activities described in this Policy. If you do not agree and consent, please immediately discontinue use of our websites and services.
Types of Information that we collect
We collect information, including information about you, when you use our Services. This may include Personally Identifiable Information, Non-Personally Identifiable Information, and Anonymous or Aggregated Information.
Personal Information: ASCO will collect Personal Information, also known as Personally Identifiable Information or PII, according to the terms described in this Policy or as disclosed at the time of collection. Personal Information may include, but is not limited to, your name, address, email address, telephone number and other contact information, financial information, your username and password, social media information or interactions, your location, employment information, browsing history, and other information that may identify you. ASCO may process your Personal Information in connection with its legitimate business purposes, as expressly authorized by you, or as permitted by law. ASCO’s legitimate business purposes include, but are not limited to:
- Identifying and personalizing the Services that you use or visit;
- Securing the Services and related account authentication;
- Improving the Services or developing future Services;
- Communicating with you, including related to your ASCO membership, customer service requests, donation opportunities or event or program registrations;
- Providing products, goods, services, and other information to you that you may be interested in;
- Fulfilling your orders for ASCO goods, services, and offerings;
- Sending surveys or communications;
- Providing interactive features and directories in the Services;
- Delivering advertising, including targeted advertising, and marketing materials;
- Responding to your requests, including for information;
- Delivering mission related goods and services that are consistent with the mission of ASCO;
- Other business purposes, including recordkeeping, fraud prevention, data analysis, and improving our business activities.
Non-Personal Information: ASCO collects Non-Personal Information automatically when you use the Services. This includes usage information about internet activities and how you use the Services, such as the frequency of visits, the length of visit, the type of browser used, the type of operating system or hardware used, your internet service provider, general location data including from IP address or imprecise geolocation, and other information available. Except as otherwise required by applicable law, we do not consider Non-Personal Information to be Personal Information.
Aggregated Information: ASCO may collect and track the usage of the Services and create Aggregated Information. Aggregated Information will be kept and used in an aggregated and anonymized manner. Aggregated Information may be made available publicly and used in any manner permitted by applicable law.
How we collect information about you
Information You Give Us
We may collect information, including Personally Identifiable Information, when you provide it to us or use our Services. For example, ASCO may collect the information you provide when you: create an account and provide us with Personally Identifiable Information, register for a meeting, renew your membership, submit materials for publication, communicate with us or our customer service, make a donation, post in an interactive forum or bulletin board, participate in a promotion, interact with Services that we provide, and make a purchase from us. Non-limiting examples include:
- Contact Information, such as name, address, telephone number, email address, phone number, messaging service contact information, and contact preferences.
- Demographic information that you provide.
- Event Registration and Research Participation information that you provide, including through online or in person surveys.
- Payment and Financial Information, for example when you register for a meeting, make a purchase through our Services, or donate. In some cases, we use third-party payment servicers to complete transactions through the Services.
- Volunteer, employment information, and education information that you provide.
- Troubleshooting technologies, including when you communicate with us through a live chat session, including any transcripts or recordings of those sessions through Third Party Services.
- Social media and community content, including any content you post on our social media or community pages.
Information We Automatically Collect through Your Use of the Services
When you use our Services, we automatically collect certain information about your usage and activities (“Usage Information”), including cookies, web beacons, pixels, and other tracking technologies (collectively, “Tracking Technologies”). We collect Usage Information to determine how our Services are used by visitors, but that may not directly identify you. Some Usage Information may be connected or linked to other information that renders it personally identifying. Examples of Usage Information include:
- Device information, such as the types of software and hardware are visiting our website (e.g., browser, operating system, device type, internet service provider, general physical location data, and IP address.)
- App usage and mobile device information.
- Internet Activity and History, such as the web traffic, browsing history, website engagement, including the website directing you to our website and what was clicked on in our Services.
- Analytics.
- De-identified or Aggregate Information.
- Troubleshooting Technologies and Session Replay, such as tracking technologies that record a user session and provide analytics, including related to troubleshooting the Service performance and correcting functionality and performance issues. - Information collected through Tracking Technologies.
Tracking Technologies
We use Tracking Technologies to collect information to improve your experience with the Services and to provide you with a more personalized experience that is tailored to your needs. Tracking Technologies and similar technologies may also be set by or provided by us or by third party providers.

Information We Collect from Third Parties
ASCO may use or work with third parties to, for example, conduct fundraising activities, operate online Services, conduct promotions, conduct event management, and related to hosting events. We may send, receive, share, rent, and/or exchange certain Personally Identifiable Information related to supporters of our or other organizations and third parties to benefit our mission, programs, and activities. If we obtain your information from a third party, you may exercise your rights under this Privacy Policy. For more information regarding donor information, please see the Supplemental Donor Privacy Policy Terms section below.
How we use the information we collect
ASCO retains and uses the collected Personally Identifiable Information consistent with and in furtherance of its mission. This may include activities such as:
- providing you with services or processing transactions that you have requested;
- managing your membership, donor, volunteer, or registration functions;
- communicating with you regarding information, features or offers that we believe will be of interest to you;
- responding to your questions or other requests (including use of transcripts or recordings collected from chats, customer service calls, emails, and/or activity sessions);
- contacting you regarding a Service or otherwise;
- processing any payments or changes to your account information;
- processing other information or Personally Identifiable Information that you submit through a Service;
- conducting surveys and performing analytics;
- contacting you regarding a promotion in which you have participated;
- evaluating your application for employment;
- fulfilling other purposes disclosed at the time you provide your Personally Identifiable Information;
- securing your account or authentication purposes;
- targeted fundraising or advertising
- as otherwise required or permitted by applicable law or consistent with our mission.
If you make a purchase or donation, we will request and collect certain financial information from you. If you use a credit card for a transaction, this information may be forwarded to your credit card provider. You may also be asked to disclose Personally Identifiable Information to us so that we may provide online technical support and troubleshooting.
ASCO may use your information, Personally Identifying Information and Non-Personally Identifying Information, to improve Services, to customize your experience with a Service, as expressly authorized by you, to prevent and address fraud and data security risks, or for other legitimate business purposes.
Sharing of Information
ASCO may share your Information, including Personally Identifying Information and/or Non-Personally Identifying Information, with certain third parties in a manner that is consistent with and in furtherance of its mission, where permitted by law or where you have provided consent.
Non-Personally Identifiable Information
ASCO may share non-personally identifiable information with third parties in connection with its legitimate business interests, including for example, maintaining the security of its systems and services, improving our systems and services, administering our systems and services, tracking generic user behavior, creating analytics and statistics, allowing third parties to display materials on our services and systems, and other commercially reasonable purposes.
Subsidiaries and Affiliated Entities
We may disclose any Information to our affiliates and subsidiaries for use in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Targeted outreach and advertising
ASCO may share Personally Identifiable Information or Non-Personally Identifiable Information with third-party service providers to display advertisements and communications that may be of interest to you, where permitted by law. Further, third-party service providers may use Tracking Technologies to display advertisements and communications that may be of interest to you or to track the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. Third-party service providers may also obtain information from you when you interact with them or their features, such as clicking a third-party link, button, or advertisement. We do not control such third-party service providers and the collection of information by them would be controlled by their respective privacy policies.

Third-Party Service Providers
We may share Personal Information with contracted third parties that provide services on our behalf, such as website hosting, email services, analytics, community engagement, electronic commerce, hosting meetings, information technology services, account and identity authentication, and other services.
Volunteers
In limited cases and subject to confidentiality requirements, we may share Personal Information with volunteers assisting us and who have a need to know the Personal Information to carry out their volunteer duties.
Legally Required Disclosures and Law Enforcement
We may disclose any collected Information as required by law or as requested by law enforcement or governmental agencies, for example in response to a subpoena, court order, to assert or defend ASCO’s rights or a legal claim, or as otherwise reasonably required.
Third-Party Campaigns and Promotions
ASCO may share mailing lists and certain Personally Identifiable Information with third parties seeking to reach ASCO customers or applicable audiences with information related to oncology, cancer care, and other issues related to ASCO’s mission. ASCO may also send communications to you on behalf of third parties, if such communications are approved by ASCO. ASCO may share Information with selected third parties that may offer products or services that may be of interest to you. You can opt out of Third-Party Campaigns and Promotions.
Social Media
If you use a social media platform and engage with us on any such social media platform, you may be sharing information, including Personal Information, with the social media platform and the public. The collection and use of your Personal Information by social media platforms are governed by their respective privacy policies.
Mobile App Terms
This section applies to information that you provide to us or that we collect automatically when you download, interact with, access, register, or use any Apps, including any content therein.
Third-Party Applications. Some of our Apps or the functions and contents of the Apps may be provided, developed, or hosted by third parties. Such Apps are Third-Party Services, as defined herein, and the third-party may collect, use, store, process, or transmit information in accordance with their applicable privacy policies and business practices, which are not under ASCO’s control. Please see the “Third-Party Content, Services, and Features” section for more information.
ASCO Applications. Where we develop and host our Apps, such as the ASCO Meetings App, this Privacy Policy terms apply.
Geolocation services in a mobile application are controlled within the device settings. Please review your device settings to discontinue the collection of this data. You may cease our collection of information through an App by uninstalling an App from your device.
Mobile Communications
Where you have provided your phone number and signed up to receive messages from us, we may send you text messages (for example, RCS, SMS, and MMS messages). We may send Mobile Communications through third party vendors or services. We will contact you within the scope of the consent that you provided and in compliance with applicable laws. You can opt-out of further Mobile Communications.
Mobile Communications are provided through Third Party Services, including wireless operators, and networks. Such communications may include data about you, including your phone number, the mobile carrier, and the contents of your message. We may collect and use this information to contact you and to provide the communications that you have requested.
Third-Party Content, Services, and Features
Our Services may include or link to third-party websites, apps, ads, locations, platforms, code, or other services (“Third-Party Service(s)”). These Third-Party Services may use their own Tracking Technologies to independently collect information about you and may solicit information from you.
ASCO is not responsible for the actions, practices, or privacy of any Third-Party Services nor any information that you may provide to the Third-Party or that they may collect about you. This includes any Third-Party Services or Tracking Technology that links from our Services. As such, this Policy does not govern Third-Party Services or Third-Party Service Providers, including their use of Tracking Technology. If the Third-Party Service is an App, please also refer to any end user license agreements or other disclosures from the applicable App Store (e.g., Apple App Store or Google Play Store).
ASCO is not responsible for, and makes no representations regarding or endorsement of, the policies or business practices of any third parties, including, without limitation, analytics providers and Third-Party Services, and we encourage you to familiarize yourself with and consult their privacy policies and terms of use.
Security
ASCO takes the security of your information seriously and we take reasonable steps to secure your information. However, no data transmission over the internet, storage, or processing of your information can be completely secure. Please consider this fact prior to submitting your Personally Identifiable Information to us.
ASCO uses industry standard technology and security measures to keep your information secure while it is in our possession and require our vendors that may receive your information to safeguard it as well. We have a specialized security team that regularly review and improve our measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, accidental loss, disclosure, or destruction.
Our Services may include or provide connections to third-party websites or services. We do not control, nor are we responsible for, the security and content of such third-party websites or services. This includes any social media links or integrations, which are operated by their respective owners and are subject to their own terns of use and privacy policies.
Children
Our Services are not intended for or directed to children younger than the age of eighteen (18). ASCO does not knowingly collect Personally Identifiable Information from children under the age of thirteen (13) and children under the age of thirteen (13) shall not provide such information to us. Universal Opt-Out, Do-Not-Track
We recognize and honor, where required, the Global Privacy Control Universal Opt-Out Mechanism. However, where you provide consent, including in our consent banner, that may override the Global Privacy Control signal. We do not respond to “do not track” signals, but you may be able to disable certain tracking as provided in this Policy.
Retention of Data
We retain Personally Identifiable Information that you provide or that we collect for as long as necessary to fulfill our legitimate business purposes, to satisfy the purposes that the information was collected for, to provide our Services, to provide you with the Services and comply with your requests, and as legally required to comply with applicable laws.
Exercising Your Rights and Control over your Personally Identifiable Information
We provide you with options to manage the privacy of your personally identifiable information, including as provided in certain countries. These options may include the ability to:
- Correct your personal information.
- Access Personal Information.
- Delete Personal Information
- Cookies and Tracking Technologies.
- Opt-out of certain marketing messages
- Object to the Use of Personal Information

Please note, services provided by Third-Party Service Providers may be controlled by third parties and may require interactions with the relevant third party. International Data Transfers
ASCO and its Services are based in the United States and, regardless of where you access the Services, the information that we collect as part of that use will be transferred to and maintained on servers located in the United States. Information we obtain about you will be stored in accordance with U.S. privacy laws, regulations, and standards, and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. By using the Services, you consent to this collection, transfer, storage, and processing of information to and in the United States in accordance with the foregoing. If an international data transfer is required, we take appropriate safeguards to require that your personal information remain protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.
State Specific Privacy Rights
This section applies to residents in states with privacy laws or privacy rights acts that apply to ASCO. It describes how we collect, use, and share such residents under these laws, such as the Colorado Privacy Rights Act, and addresses your rights with respect to that Personal Data. For purposes of this section, the term “Personal Data” has the meaning given in the respective state privacy laws.
Where applicable, you have the rights provided by statute, some of which may be listed below. However, these rights are not absolute and may be limited as permitted by law.
- Right to Access. You may request a copy of the Personal Information in your account or by contacting us through one of the methods provided below.
- Right to Correction. You can edit and correct your personal information, including by changing it directly in our products and services.
- Right to Deletion. Subject to applicable legal exceptions, you may have the right to request that we delete the personal information you have provided to us.
- Right to Opt-out of tracking for targeted advertising purposes. You can submit requests to opt-out of tracking for “targeted advertising” purposes.
- Right to Opt-out of profiling. To the extent profiling is performed by ASCO, you can opt-out of the automated processing of your Personal Data to evaluate, analyze, or predict personal aspects related to your economic situation, health, personal preferences, interests, reliability, behavior, location, or movements, to the extent this results in decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
- Right to Non-discrimination. We will not discriminate related to you exercising your state privacy law rights.
To protect your Personal Data from unauthorized requests, we may require you to verify your credentials or identity before acting on a rights request. If you do not have an account with us, or if we suspect that your account has been accessed without your authorization, we may ask you to provide additional personal information for verification. If we are subsequently unable to confirm your identity, we may refuse your rights request. California Residents
ASCO is a non-profit organization. California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits California residents to request certain information regarding our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. Policy Changes
This Policy may change from time to time effective upon posting of the updated notice. Your continued use of the Services after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so please review this Policy periodically for updates. To the extent any provision of this Policy is found by a competent tribunal to be invalid or unenforceable, such provision shall be severed to the extent necessary for the remainder to be valid and enforceable.

1. Introduction
These Supplemental Donor Privacy Policy Terms apply to donors of Conquer Cancer and supplement the above privacy policy. The Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (hereafter “Conquer Cancer,”) was created by the world’s foremost cancer doctors of ASCO to seek dramatic advances in the prevention, treatment, and cures of all types of cancer. In striving to realize its vision of a world where cancer is prevented or cured, and every survivor is healthy, Conquer Cancer works to conquer this disease by funding breakthrough cancer research, sharing cutting-edge knowledge with patients and physicians worldwide, improving quality of and access to care, and enhancing quality of life for all who are touched by cancer.
Conquer Cancer is an independent, nonprofit organization formed in the State of Virginia, United States of America. These Supplemental Donor Privacy Policy Terms explain how and when Conquer Cancer and its affiliates collect and use the information you provide to us in connection with your charitable contributions and applies whenever you make a charitable donation with us in any form. Donations made online through our websites are also subject to the above Privacy Policy and ASCO’s Terms of Use , which govern use of our online services and provide transparency into the ways in which we process data received from users of our websites.
Conquer Cancer collects and maintains the following types of donor information when you make a donation with us:
- Contact information, such as name, address, telephone number and e-mail address
- Giving information, such as gift date, gift amount, frequency, payment type, and source
- Information you provide to us in connection with your donation, such as employer matching information, or “in honor of” requests
- Information on events attended, publications received, and special requests for program information
- Information provided by the donor in the form of comments, questions, and suggestions
This information is kept on file for record keeping purposes. It is also used to analyze overall giving patterns in order to make more accurate budget projections, as well as to understand donors’ interests in our mission and to update them on Conquer Cancer’s plans and activities. This information is shared with staff, board members, volunteers, and consultants of Conquer Cancer and ASCO and its affiliates on a confidential and need-to-know basis. To the extent you elect to make certain information public, such as the amount of your donation or the person in whose memory a donation is made, such information may be publicly disclosed.
3. List Sharing, Rentals and Exchanges
From time to time, Conquer Cancer sends, receives, shares, rents, and/or exchanges certain information related to its list of supporters with other organizations and third parties to benefit our mission, programs, and activities. We have found this to be the best method of reaching additional potential constituents while responsibly stewarding our resources, and we hope you value the information they send you. Your name, contact information, and giving information may be made available to carefully screened organizations directly or through third-party agents for limited uses. You will have the opportunity to opt out of receiving further communications from these organizations. We may also share your name and contact information with third parties in order to serve advertisements to you on behalf of Conquer Cancer or provide you services on our behalf. You have the opportunity to have your name removed from a list rental, exchange, or sharing program at any time by contacting our Donor Relations center at (571) 483-1700.
4. Discontinuing Contact Upon Request / Consumer Rights and How to Exercise Them
It is the policy of Conquer Cancer to communicate with donors according to their expressed preferences whenever possible. Conquer Cancer will discontinue or change the method used to contact any person upon that person’s oral, written, or email request directed to the organization as provided below, or using the appropriate contact information provided above in ASCO’s Privacy Policy.

Upon a person’s (or a person’s authorized representative’s) request that Conquer Cancer discontinue further contact, the person’s name and address will be promptly modified in Conquer Cancer’s donor database to ensure that such type of contact is not made with the person in the future. Conquer Cancer will also take steps to ensure that similar contact is no longer made with the individual and that the person’s name is marked accordingly in any external databases or records under Conquer Cancer’s control. The foregoing does not apply to transactional communications: Conquer Cancer and its affiliates may still contact you with transaction-related communications, such as confirmation of your donation.
Donors who are residents of certain U.S. states may have additional rights, subject to verification of the donor request. Conquer Cancer provides the privacy rights accorded to you under your applicable state law, if any. Conquer Cancer subscribes to the Donor Bill of Rights, which was created by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits.
Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To ensure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the nonprofit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:
I. To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
II. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
III. To have access to the organization's most recent financial statements.
IV. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
V. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
VI. To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
VII. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
