Recipients of the 2020 Conquer Cancer – Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research Career Pathway Grants in Symptom Management

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation is pleased to announce the 2020 recipients of the Conquer Cancer – Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research Career Pathway Grants in Symptom Management.

The Career Pathway Grants in Symptom Management are awarded to recruit and retain young physician scientists committed to conducting symptom management research. This unique program provides the opportunity for up to four years of funding for early-career researchers as they transition from training to principal investigators and begin to set up labs to study symptom management. Funding is also allocated for the researchers' mentors.

“These generous grants from Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research are a promise to patients everywhere, with all types of cancer, that the best doctors are working to ensure their quality of life will remain during cancer treatment and beyond,” said Nancy R. Daly, MS, MPH, Conquer Cancer’s chief executive officer.

The goal of symptom management research is to find effective ways to reduce harmful symptoms experienced by patients with cancer and decrease cancer care costs related to poorly controlled symptoms. Symptom management research focuses on developing better approaches to prevent or treat acute or chronic symptoms and morbidities related to cancer, its treatment, and caregiving.

“The RTFCCR is committed to support more young talent to become interested in this important research area. We want to listen to the patient and researcher community and provide funding to the best approaches to symptom management. We welcome applicants to contact us early at the research idea development to understand the needs and provide you support in the application process, “ said Shawn Stephenson, board chairman, Rising Tide Foundation.
