Alexandria, Va. - Conquer Cancer®, the ASCO Foundation, welcomes Kathryn Beal, MD, to its Board of Directors. Dr. Beal will help guide Conquer Cancer in its support of funding breakthrough research for every type of cancer.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Beal to the Board and grateful for her willingness to volunteer her time and resources to advance our mission to accelerate lifesaving research and empower people everywhere to conquer cancer,” said Chief Executive Officer Nancy R. Daly, MS, MPH.

Dr. Beal is a board-certified radiation oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). She is chief of the brain tumor service within the Department of Radiation Oncology, where she treats and provides long term care for more 200 brain metastases patients per year with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS).  Dr. Beal is involved with several treatment protocols of radiation therapy for brain tumors, as well as imaging of brain tumors as related to radiation therapy planning and treatment response. She was awarded an R21 grant to investigate the use of “18F-Fluorocholine (18F-FCho) to distinguish necrosis from recurrence in brain metastases.”  She has published and presented several original studies that demonstrate a change in response and improved outcome in patients treated with the combination of SRS and immunotherapy and has become a leader in this emerging field.

Dr. Beal received her BA from Harvard College, then received her medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, and completed her residency in radiation oncology at MSKCC, where she has been on staff for more than 15 years.
